Umpire Mechanics Clinic

District 14 Umpire Mechanics Clinics

These free clinic are open to all District 14 volunteers. No umpiring experience is required.

Frank Bontempo and his D14 Staff Umpires will lead students through on-field drills designed to simulate game-like situations.

Beginning/Base Umpire Mechanics Clinic
Date:         SATURDAY February 7, 2026
Time:         8am - 2pm
Location:  To Be Announced

This clinic focuses on the responsibilities, positioning and mechanics of the Base Umpire in basic situations. Emphasis will be on umpiring on the 60-foot Little League diamond using the 2-man umpiring system.

Students should wear comfortable clothing and must wear closed toe shoes (tennis shoes or turf shoes).


Advanced/Plate Umpire Mechanics Clinic
Date:         SATURDAY February 14, 2026
Time:         8am - 1pm
Location:  To Be Announced

This clinic focuses on the responsibilities, positioning and mechanics of the Plate Umpire in basic situations. Topics include "the slot" and proper stance, tracking the pitch, and movement after the ball has been put into play. This is an excellent introduction for new plate umpires and a great refresher course for the veteran umpire.

Students should wear comfortable clothing and must wear closed toe shoes (tennis shoes turf shoes, boots, etc.). Students should bring a complete set of their own plate gear (mask, chest protector and shin guards).  All male students must wear a cup for cage work.
